Waterfall of Drymonas
The Drymonas waterfalls are located in northern Evia, in the municipality of Mantoudio – Limni – Agia Anna, between Drymonas and Kerasia, at an altitude of 620 meters. The site is close to the Monastery of St. David, 20 kilometers from Rovies and 25 from Limni.
It is part of the Sepias River, which is formed in Xiro Oros and flows into northern Euboikos. It does not have a constant flow of water but mainly drains the surrounding waters of Xiro Oros and in the summer months the waterfalls usually have no flow at all. The waterfalls consist of a network of streams and three waterfalls that create two small lakes. The highest of them falls with a rush from an altitude of 15 meters. The area has been landscaped, with a small network of paths, bridges and benches.
The biodiversity of the area is very rich. The dense forests that surround it consist mainly of black larch, oak and Aleppo pine. Other trees that grow near the waterfalls are plane trees, maples, oaks, wild cedar and elms and many species of flowers. The fauna includes many species of forests and mountain rivers, from raptors such as hawks, buzzards and peregrines to nocturnal predators such as owls and screech owls. The bird fauna is complemented by species such as woodpeckers, quails, cuckoos, woodpeckers and many others. The water system of the waterfalls is an ideal habitat for small animals, such as amphibians, reptiles and insects, which live in small mountain lakes and streams, as well as mammals such as foxes, weasels, badgers, hedgehogs, hares, moles and various bats.
There are many hiking trails at the waterfalls, while canyoning descents are also organized.
